JEWELRY TRENDS 2009

Statement Jewelry is still in; dainty, cutesy metal jewelry will be gone this year.  Big, bold, bling will be the norm. You will see statement jewelry all over the summer runways. Huge chunky necklaces and bracelets in bold colors will be everywhere. The great thing about this trend is that you will see it in high end jewelry and street chic. So tone down your outfit and go wild with your jewelry.

q       You will see natures influence in the materials used. Lots of wood and stone beads. Look for "flower" and "leaf" shaped beads and pendants. Organic/botanical looking jewelry pieces will be in.

q       Rings will be big. If you make them yourself, remember to make them bling using crystals or chunky gemstones. Cocktail rings will be over the top bordering on gaudy with a touch of the the 60's and 70's. You will see lots of hoops, balls and circles on the fingers. Your over the top rings will match perfectly for your big bold jewelry.

q       Use bold chains, precious or base metal and attach large bold gemstones or pendants. Silver has been king for the last few years and that will continue, however you will see more gold. You will even see the two metals used together in chains and in beaded jewelry designs…so go ahead and mix thing up a little.

q       Use unique untraditional materials by gathering up some washers and spacers from your local  hardware store. Spray and seal them any color you like. Again be sure to mix naturals with metals. You will also see a sleek modern look in jewelry as opposed to the more traditional beaded designs.

q       The Moroccan and Asian influence will be seen in jewelry. You may want to design some pieces with the illusion of these foreign countries. Mix dark wooden beads with large oriental coins or pendants or patterned beads with etched metals. Use metal beads and findings with  antique finishes or use brass or rose gold plating to give your designs that international flavor, using colors like coral and yellow will make them sizzle and POP!

q       Earrings are going to be in…make them casual, lightweight and colorful. Don't forget long and bold…ala chandeliers. Remember the spotlight is on!

q       Key materials to use this year are seed beads, chunky wooden beads, natural beads of any kind, mixed color threads intertwined in your designs. Painted and natural shells and worn and painted metals.

q       Amazonite greens and translucent turquoise will look great for a cool summer palette. Mix matte and shiny beads for a beachy feeling. Lavenders and salmon rose will be among the in colors. Add some texture for contrast and use a brown or natural material to make it all grounded. According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color institute this spring will evoke a sense of freshness and bright colors will be in for 09..see her full report by clicking on the link below.
